International Prize for Stone Architecture

The International Prize for Stone Architecture 2011 was awarded to the Monitoring and Research Centre of Furnas, on the island of São Miguel. The main feature of this building is an intermediary space between the exterior and the interior, and basalt was the main construction material, which is the stone that is mostly employed in Azorean architecture.
